hello and welcome!

I’m Allison, an artist based in the woods of New Hampshire and the founder of Scattered Leaf Studio, LLC. I’ve often said that my art is an expression of my unending belief in and search for magic.

When you’re a child, magic is easy to find: it hides under rocks in streams, flickers in the glow of a summer campfire, winds through trees on a woodland path. As an adult, it’s harder to remember where to find that magic that was once so prevalent. But I’ve found that it lives on through art.

artistic inspirations

Since I was young, I’ve struggled with mental health issues including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and social anxiety. I’ve spent much of my life feeling disconnected from others, trapped in my own head.

The isolating effect of mental health disorders has had a significant impact on my artistic work. Through my art, I find human connection, peace, and whimsy; things that are often hard to access for those of us who tend to dwell in the darkness of our own minds. I am often inspired by folklore, traditions, landscapes, and graveyards - examples of ways humans engage with each other beyond the bounds of time. I am also inspired by mystical and occult practices such as tarot and astrology as means of connecting to tradition, engaging with the natural world, and seeking magic. These influences often find their way into my work, either directly as subjects or indirectly as guides in my own spiritual practice.

I am primarily a painter, but also enjoy crafts such as knitting and jewelry making. Above all, my studio practice embraces playfulness, imagination, and freedom to explore.

Aside from art, I love reading, hiking, cross-country skiing, and exploring my woodland home.
